The National Christian Counselors Association’s certification in Christian Counseling is designed for ministers and other ordained clergy who primarily need training and an NCCA certification without the need for any additional degrees. This program is also popular with counselors who already have their Christian counseling degrees or other psychology, social work and mental health degrees. No new Christian counseling degree is conferred, though this course does lead to licensure for those already holding a degree, but the credits for this coursework can later be applied to a degree if further study is desired. Each of the further degree programs contain all the elements of the certification course. If you are unsure which course to commit to, certification is a safe choice, as it is a simple matter to continue on to a more ambitious program upon completion.
Completion of this program provides the following designations:
- Certified Pastoral Counselor for person without a degree.
- Licensed Pastoral Counselor for those who hold a Bachelors Degree
- Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor for those holding a Master’s degree
- Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor – Advanced Certification – for those holding a Doctorate
Pursuing an NCCA Certificate is the lowest-cost option to qualify yourself as a certified Christian counselor. It will especially appeal to those who already have advanced degrees or do not have a need for an additional degree.
